Μία εντυπωσιακή, ιστορική παρτίδα του Steinitz από το τουρνουά Hastings του 1895. Στην τελική θέση ο αντίπαλός του, ο Curt von Bardeleben φέρεται να σηκώθηκε από την καρέκλα του και να εγκατέλειψε ενοχλημένος την αίθουσα (όχι την παρτίδα), αφήνοντας τον Steinitz να διεκδικήσει τη νίκη από χρόνο. Πάντως μετά την τελευταία κίνηση του λευκού Rxh7+ υπάρχει φορσέ ματ σε 10 κινήσεις, το οποίο ο πρώτος παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής έδειξε στο κοινό που παρακολουθούσε την παρτίδα του.
