GM Alexandros Benatsis!

A game that I liked (ChessBase 12)

Ngf3 c5 6. c3 Nc6 7. Bd3 Qb6 8. O-O cxd4 9. cxd4 Nxd4 10. Nxd4 Qxd4 11. Nf3 {White sacrifices the first pawn (d4) but in return he gets easy development} Qb6 12. Qa4 Be7 13. Be3 $5 {sacrifices the second pawn! Excellent theoretical preparation from mr. A. Benatsis who has some experience in this kind of positions.} Qxb2 14. Rfc1 Qb4 15. Qc2 { ofcourse the exchange of queens is out of the question} Qg4 $2 {going the wrong way.} (15... h6) 16. h3 Qh5 17. Qa4 {black has two pawns but if you check with the machine you will see that white is winning! It is not at all easy to bring the pieces out for black, thus he choses a move which returns material.} O-O 18. Rxc8 {a typical tactical motif for the variation} Rfxc8 19. Qxd7 Bc5 20. Bxc5 Rxc5 21. Qxb7 Rac8 22. Qxa7 g5 $6 23. Qe7 R5c7 24. Qxg5+ $6 { this loses some of the advantage because black gets the a pawn and he reaches an endgame whre he has a rook against two minor pieces. White is better ofcourse in any case} (24. Qf6 $142 h6 25. Nd4 -- 26. Nb5 {[%cal Gb5d6]}) 24... Qxg5 25. Nxg5 h6 26. Nf3 {Alex decides to play it safe as he wants to have control over the d pawn} (26. Nh7 $5) 26... Rc1+ 27. Rxc1 Rxc1+ 28. Kh2 Ra1 29. Kg3 Rxa2 30. Ne1 $1 {nice regrouping: white wants to bring the knight to d4 and also frees his f pawn in order to support e5. Black was already in time trouble around here, thus making things even worse for him.} Kg7 31. f4 f6 32. Kf3 Ra4 33. Nc2 {[%csl Ya3]} Ra7 34. Nd4 {[%csl Re6,Rh6]} Kf7 35. Nb5 Rd7 36. Nd6+ Ke7 37. Nb5 Rb7 {black offered a draw but there was no need to accept the "offer".} 38. Kg4 {[%csl Rh6][%cal Gg4h5,Gh5h6]} Rb8 39. Kh5 Rg8 40. Bg6 {not allowing any counterplay} (40. g4 fxe5 41. fxe5 Rg5+ 42. Kxh6 Rxe5 43. h4 $16) 40... Rb8 41. Nd4 Rb2 (41... Rb4 $2 42. Nc6+) 42. Bc2 Kf7 43. Bg6+ Ke7 44. Bc2 Kf7 45. Kxh6 Rb4 46. Bg6+ Ke7 $2 {falling for that trick again but the position is lost anyhow.} 47. Nc6+ 1-0
